Thank you – The Battle

Again, I would like to thank all participants, donors and supporters of the Cherish Women’s Cancer Foundation who helped with The Battle in one way or another. I am very pleased to report that $90,000 was raised by the teams participating in the event. 100% of these funds will go to research because the cost of the event was covered by sponsorship.

Below I have copied a few photos from the event that you may enjoy. If you would like to view all photos, please follow this link.

The Cherish Women’s Cancer Foundation was established in 2012 to support and promote research into kinder, gentler and more effective treatments of gynaecological cancer. To date, Cherish has funded many research projects being undertaken at the Queensland Centre for Gynaecological Cancer (QCGC) Research, the research unit that I lead. In 2018, the focus of research at QCGC Research includes:

  1. ECHO trial: A study to see if physical exercise can help women who have chemotherapy for advanced ovarian cancer to stay fit and have good quality of life.
  2. feMMe: This is the world’s first prospective, randomized clinical trial to assess non-surgical ways to treat women with endometrial (womb) cancer.
  3. LEGS: This study will pave the way for reducing leg swelling in women who need lymph nodes removed as part of their surgery for gynaecological cancer.

The funding from The Battle is critical for the Queensland Centre for Gynaecological Cancer research unit to maintain and complete these studies that are only partly covered by government research grants.

Many thanks to all who helped! And I hope you had fun along the way. I certainly enjoyed the evening with my wife and two of my daughters.
